For Robi Taylor, BarNone K9 did not begin as a business idea. It began with a dog named Nala, a major life transition, and the realization that love alone was not enough to create the relationship he wanted with his dog.

“Nala was the first dog I ever owned as an adult,” Taylor says. “I quickly realized I had a big problem. I had this incredible dog with tons of potential, and I had absolutely no idea how to properly train her.”

At the time, Taylor was transitioning out of the military and facing the uncertainty of what would come next. Starting over at 31 came with pressure, but it also created an opportunity to build something meaningful. Rather than casually explore dog training, Taylor committed fully. He used his GI Bill, packed up his life, moved to Texas, and enrolled in one of the most respected dog training schools he could find.

What followed was a year of written tests, practical exams, hands-on work with hundreds of dogs, an internship, and continued education. When Taylor returned to Las Vegas, he brought back more than a skill set. He returned with a mission.

That mission — and the training philosophy behind it — would later gain national recognition when Taylor and his Dutch Shepherd, Naz, won Season 3 of America’s Top Dog, a nationally televised canine competition that tested advanced obedience, control, athleticism, and working ability under pressure.

For Taylor, the recognition was meaningful, but it also reinforced something he already believed: strong dog training is not built on shortcuts or social media moments. It is built on consistency, communication, accountability, and trust.

That mission became BarNone K9.

What started as a personal desire to better understand his own dog eventually grew into a company built around helping owners create stronger relationships, clearer communication, and reliable behavior that holds up in everyday life.

At the core of BarNone K9 is a simple philosophy: better behavior and a better bond. For Taylor, successful dog training is not about tricks, viral videos, or creating robotic obedience for social media. It is about helping dogs and owners genuinely enjoy life together.

“To me, a successful relationship with your dog is not about having a dog that can perform tricks for social media,” he says. “It is about trust, communication, and being able to genuinely enjoy life together.”

Taylor believes many owners misunderstand what training is truly meant to accomplish. A dog may know commands but still create stress, frustration, or chaos inside the home if the relationship lacks clarity. Obedience alone is not the finish line. Communication is.

“My goal has always been to help owners create clarity for their dogs so both sides understand each other better,” Taylor says. “When dogs clearly understand expectations, boundaries, and how to navigate the world appropriately, everything changes.”

The result is not just a better-trained dog. It is a calmer home, a more confident owner, and a dog that feels more stable and fulfilled.

This belief became the foundation for one of BarNone K9’s signature offerings, the Hybrid Program. Taylor created the program after noticing a common problem in the dog training industry: many owners were sending their dogs away for training, only to receive them back without understanding how to maintain the results themselves.

“The dog may perform well for the trainer,” he explains, “but once it goes home, the communication gap between the dog and owner is still there.”

Taylor wanted to build something different. His Hybrid Program combines immersive training for the dog with heavy owner involvement throughout the process. The dog learns, but the owner also learns how to communicate clearly, understand behavior, maintain structure, and apply training in real-life situations.

For Taylor, training only matters if it holds up outside the training environment — around distractions, stress, unpredictability, and everyday life.

“No two dogs, owners, or households are the same,” he says. “My goal is to create reliable behavior, confidence, and freedom that actually holds up in the real world.”

One of the greatest challenges Taylor sees among dog owners is not a lack of love. It is a lack of education. Most people mean well, but they have never been properly taught how dogs learn, communicate, or respond to structure.

“Dogs thrive with routine, consistency, good timing, and proper motivation,” Taylor says. “The problem is, that sounds simple in theory, but it can be surprisingly difficult to apply in everyday life.”

He also believes social media has distorted expectations around dog training. Owners often see short, highly edited clips online and assume training is about perfection. In reality, Taylor says, strong training is built through the consistent mastery of fundamentals over time.

“Unfortunately, good intentions alone do not create reliability, safety, or clarity for a dog,” Taylor says. “Without structure, consistency, and proper communication, even well-loved dogs can develop serious behavioral issues.”

When owners can communicate clearly, stay fair and consistent, and give dogs the guidance they need, Taylor believes dogs are often far more capable than people realize.

That is why owner education is central to the BarNone K9 approach. Taylor does not want clients dependent on him. He wants them empowered.

“The owner is the one living with the dog every single day, not the trainer,” he says. “A trainer can create progress, but if the owner does not understand how to communicate clearly, maintain structure, and apply the training consistently, the results usually will not last long-term.”

Beyond foundational behavior training, BarNone K9 also offers specialized programs such as nosework throughout the Las Vegas Valley. For Taylor, nosework is one of the most valuable forms of training because it taps into a dog’s natural instincts while building confidence, focus, and fulfillment.

“Nosework is one of my favorite forms of training because it taps into what dogs were naturally designed to do,” he says.

Taylor has seen many behavioral challenges improve when dogs are given healthy outlets for mental engagement. Nosework allows them to problem-solve, slow down mentally, and experience success in a structured way. It also strengthens the relationship between dog and owner because it becomes a teamwork exercise rather than simple obedience.

“People are often shocked by how much calmer, more focused, and more fulfilled their dogs become simply by giving them an appropriate outlet to use their brain naturally,” Taylor says.

As a veteran-owned business owner, Taylor understands that trust is not given. It is earned. His military background gave him discipline, but building BarNone K9 taught him a deeper form of leadership.

“Leadership, whether with dogs, people, or business, is built on consistency, accountability, and trust,” he says. “You cannot demand trust from dogs, clients, or a community. You have to earn it through your actions, your standards, and how consistently you show up over time.”

While national recognition brought visibility, the real reward for Taylor has been the impact his work has on families. A well-trained dog can reduce stress inside the home, create more freedom in everyday life, and strengthen the relationship between dog and owner.

For Taylor, that impact is the reason BarNone K9 continues to grow.
